Trends in a Wheel

Ever sat in a coffee shop, sipping on a skinny latte and wonder how people get so hooked on certain clothes?? Well, now all our questions have been answered in a wheel!! Although I'm still wondering who in Dublin decided leggings with a short T-shirt was a worthy trend....

If it's good enough for Barbie...

While browsing through asos.com's newest lines I stumbled across something quite unexpected...a Barbie Lounge! You guessed it, just picture Mattels iconic blond bombshell rocking out in the hotties LBD's in town. The best part ladies is that you can purchase Barbie looking super stylish and then purchase the same dress for yourself!! Ever dreamed of being Barbie???!!!

A part of me thinks this is one almighty marketing ploy but then the other part of me is wondering when women are going to grow up. Looking at childrens consumer culture we can immediately identify specific feminine ideals that are being emphasised but now these feminine ideals are being brought to life.

Barbie, although I do love her, eludes an unrealistic beauty ideal. Barbie has big breasts, a tiny waist and long thin legs. It is physically impossible to have a body exactly like Barbie’s. If you wana look like Barbie ladies, the average women would have to increase 24 in. in height, 5 in. in the chest, and 3.2 in. in neck length, while decreasing 6 in. in the waist. Your waist would be so small that you'd be crawling around on all fours! LBD not looking so hot right now!!

So Barbie, please give us our dresses back and return to the shelves of Smiths!
